Linoleum Relief

Learn to print
I’m super excited to teach this intro linoleum printing class at Sheldon Jackson Museum. Linoleum relief printing is one of the easiest printmaking mediums to do at home without needing a printmaking studio with large and expensive or complex infrastructure. With just a few tools you can start printing right at home at your kitchen table. For this class you’ll be responsible for purchasing a few supplies, which you’ll be able to use for future printing projects. If you are taking the class in person at Sheldon Jackson Museum, I will be providing black ink, linoleum and paper, but if you wish to take the class online via Zoom you’ll be responsible for procuring those items as well. If you are attending in person but you’d like to print in a color other than black, you are more than welcome to purchase the ink color you prefer! I recommend Caligo Safe Wash Relief ink and they have several colors to choose from.

Class will take place over the course of two sessions on Wednesday June 25th, 10am-12pm, a 1 hour lunch break, and then 1-3pm. The first session of the day we’ll introduce the carving process: Creating your design, transferring your design to the linoleum, and carving the linoleum. You’ll then complete your carving and in session two we’ll be inking up your block and printing! I’ll also show you how to clean your block so you can use it again and again. You’ll leave with a small edition of hand printed original relief prints.
If you haven’t yet registered for the class (the class itself is free! You are just responsible for procuring materials prior to class) call Sheldon Jackson Museum at (907) 747-8981 or stop by the museum IRL in Sitka.
