a truly outrageous halloween

o, I was planning on being Wonder Woman for Halloween, but as I lay in bed the night before Halloween, I remembered that I had the perfect Jem-pink wig and that a Jem costume could be pretty easy to pull together last minute.  Dan and I went to Value Village yesterday and I found a pink night gown and shoes that were the perfect pink, and I grabbed a slip which I cut into Jem's fringe belt and then painted with the blue design.  We found the microphone at Goodwill and I was set!  The make up was super fun, I used Lime Crime's Centrifuchsia for both my lips and for Jem's signature eye makeup.  On top of the lipstick I brushed on some of Sugarpill's Magentric loose eyeshadow and then some loose MAC glitter all over.  A little black liner and some dark bold brows and the make up was done!  It was a really fun costume and I'm glad I decided to go for Jem.  I'm still itching to wear my Wonder Woman costume, though!  A friend has a Halloween party up in Seattle tonight, so I might end up going to that, which will give me the perfect excuse to dress up again.

Oh, and Dan was a cowboy!

appy Halloween from Monster Dust!  Martha Stewart Pets sent Dusty this little costume and monster toy for Halloween!  I changed my mind and decided to dress up as Jem for halloween, so hopefully I'll get some shots of my truly outrageous costume before the night is over.

eah, teal.  I'd been getting super antsy about my hair color and after doing some test runs in photoshop to decide which color I liked best, I decided to go back to green!  My friend Bailey is kind of to blame, she always has the best hair colors (it's currently a steel grey which. is. awesome.).  If you've been around the blog for a long time, like really long, you might remember Bailey from the fashion shoot I did for my grad school portfolio.  I keep begging her to start a blog because her style is ON POINT.  I kind of want to steal every outfit she posts on Instagram.  Anyway, before she dyed her hair grey it was black-to-green ombre and I sorta fell in love.  Eleanor at Embellish, who did my red, took me green.  Originally I had planned to go from natural red, to "Ariel" red, to purple, to green, but I decided to just skip straight to green.  I kinda like how perfect it is for the halloween season! I was thinking of being Gamora for Halloween, but after cosplaying Gamora for BurlyCon I realized what a pain in the ass it was to paint yourself green, so I think instead I'll do Wonder Woman.  I got this amazing Wonder Woman onesie from Booty and the Geek at BurlyCon, so I'll probably just make myself a gold headband, put on my black wig and some tall boots and call it good.  Do you have any Halloween costume plans for this weekend?

WED // aaron + riki's chambers bay tacoma wedding

his past summer I had a booth at Art On The Ave, a super fun arts festival on Tacoma's 6th Ave every summer.  During the festival I did giveaways for some photo sessions and one super special giveaway for an entire wedding package.  Aaron and Riki were the winners and I'm so excited they ended up winning.  I got to shoot their engagement photos back in August and they ended up being some of my favorite photos ever.  I knew that their wedding was going to be super fun after meeting them at the engagement shoot.  I mean, they brought their dog and he was wearing a little shirt collar.  SO cute.

Their wedding was so laid back and lighthearted, it was a pleasure to be a part of their day.  Aaron's daughter gave an unexpected toast at the reception that had everyone in the room, including myself, with tears in their eyes.  So special, so meaningful.  The wedding was held at the Pierce County Environmental Services Building, which despite sounding unromantic, has an amazing view of the sound and we were able to zoom down to the waterfront in a golf cart to do some bride + groom portraits down on the beach.  We also got an incredible sunset that night that was mind blowing!  Nature FTW.

rowing up, my family had Jack Russell Terriers, which meant every piece of clothing and furniture had a nice coating of white fur.  So, I was prepared when we got Dusty to have fur clean-up become part of my life.  Everyone told us that Corgis were big shedders, but for the first year we had Dusty she barely shed at all!  She lulled us into thinking she wasn't going to shed a lot, but then this spring-- BAM.  I was dodging corgi-fur tumbleweeds left and right.  Sweeping up piles of Dusty fur is a regular occurrence these days, so when Swiffer contacted me asking if I'd be interested in trying their sweeper thingies, I was definitely interested.  I could have made 10 Dusty's with the amount of fur I've cleaned up in the last 9 months!
I was more interested because Swiffer is supporting the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA) in a year-long effort to help find homes for animals in need!   Since pet clean-up can become a huge ordeal (especially if they shed like Dusty does), Swiffer is trying to help make the challenges of cleaning up after a pet less of a concern for those considering adoption.  According to the Swiffer Cleaning Index, half of Americans say that concerns about pet hair and shedding in their home is one of the top reasons they worry about getting a pet, wouldn’t get a pet or don’t have one. More than one third of pet owners also say the leading source of “pet cleaning tensions” in their home is hair, dust bunnies and/or shedding.  

 

To help pet adopters cope with the newfound cleaning challenges, Swiffer is donating Big Green Boxes full of Swiffer cleaning products to more than 100 shelters nationwide and gifted each of an estimated 7,000 pet adopters with a free Swiffer Sweeper during the ASPCA Mega-Match-A-Thon.  Swiffer also gave me a second box full of pet cleaning accoutrements to give to a friend with pets and my friend Amy was the perfect candidate! She has two bunnies and they're shedding their summer coats right now like crazy!  I had no idea bunnies were shedders.  Her giant bunny Riot got curious and came over to inspect the box, such a cutie.  

I've wanted my own dog ever since I left home, but one of the reasons I thought it'd be a good idea to get a puppy was as a baby step towards someday starting a family with a tiny human.  I had never really raised a dog from puppyhood, I was pretty young when our Jack Russells were pups, but I knew that taking care of a little dog would be a good learning experience.  My mom came over the other day and as we were about to leave for dinner, Dusty came in and her butt fur was covered with poop.  We'd been dealing with diarrhea for a couple days due to an upset tummy, so without a second thought I quickly plopped her in the sink and sprayed down her fur to clean her up.  My mom laughed because it was definitely a "mom" type thing that I was doing.  Taking care of a dog isn't totally the same as having a kid, but it's taught me that I'm capable of more than I would've thought and it's shown me a different kind of selfless love I didn't know I had.  I'm sure I'll learn a ton more about that type of love whenever we end up making a person, but I feel a bit more comfortable with the idea after becoming a dog-mom.
